BLUF

A cybersecurity flaw in Bluetooth-enabled police devices allows officers to be detected and tracked via unique signals. Similarly, most Bluetooth devices can be tracked; though modern devices often use privacy features to reduce this risk.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain how Bluetooth technology works, including device addressing, and how signals can be detected and identified.
  • Analyse the cybersecurity risks associated with Bluetooth-enabled devices, including how vulnerabilities can enable tracking of individuals.
  • Evaluate strategies to mitigate tracking risks, and assess the limitations of privacy protections in modern wireless technologies.
