The U.S. Air Force is testing Red 6’s Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS) on F-16s, projecting simulated adversaries and friendly assets onto pilots’ helmets to enhance training, reduce costs, and address pilot shortages.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how helmet-mounted augmented reality can simulate realistic air combat scenarios, including multi-ship and drone integration.
  • Analyse potential cost savings, scalability, and operational impacts of ATARS on pilot training programs.
  • Evaluate the role of emerging technologies in mitigating pilot shortages and enhancing cognitive preparedness in complex aerial environments.
