BLUF

QZS-7 is carrying a US Space Force space-surveillance sensor, completing a bilateral US-Japan security space initiative. The sensors will monitor the Indo-Pacific orbital environment and provide data to the US Space Surveillance Network.

Learning Outcomes 

  • Describe the purpose and significance of the US-Japan space security partnership, including the deployment of US Space Force sensors on Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS).
  • Explain the role of space situational awareness and orbital surveillance sensors in monitoring activities in space and supporting national security objectives in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Assess how shared space-based capabilities contribute to allied defence cooperation, including data sharing through the US Space Surveillance Network.
