Researchers are exploring a lightweight, wearable sensor that could alert soldiers to hostile drones by detecting their acoustic or RF signatures. This could improve soldiers’ situational awareness while minimizing additional equipment and combat load.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain how lightweight wearable sensors can detect hostile drones using acoustic or radio-frequency (RF) signatures to enhance soldier situational awareness.
  • Describe the operational challenges posed by unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and the importance of early drone detection.
  • Evaluate the design considerations for soldier-worn counter-drone technologies, including minimizing size, weight, power requirements, and additional equipment burden.
