Timing shapes whether change gains support or faces resistance. External events, transitions, crises, and social shifts can create opportunities or setbacks, so effective change-makers monitor context, build readiness, and adapt strategies to seize favourable moments.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain why timing influences change efforts by describing how social, psychological, and cultural conditions can either support or impede change.
  • Identify contextual factors such as crises, leadership transitions, societal shifts, and tipping points that can create opportunities for, or barriers to, culture change.
  • Apply adaptive change strategies by assessing the broader environment, building stakeholder readiness, and adjusting approaches to take advantage of favourable timing and conditions.
