This article examines the first images of Northrop Grumman’s Model 437—an advanced air combat drone—and how it could potentially fill the requirement for the US Air Force’s and/or Navy’s ‘loyal wingman’ Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) programs.

Summary

  1. Model 437 drone could also suit needs of US allies.
  2. Prototype is in line with concept renderings, except it has a cockpit.
  3. Aircraft features a bowless bubble canopy and pointed nose.
  4. Pilot option allows flexibility where drones are subject to airspace restrictions.
