Australia’s newly-elected Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has been welcomed to office by some of this country’s key Indo-Pacific allies, as they prepare to meet in Tokyo for the latest QUAD talks.

- Mr Albanese will be accompanied by Penny Wong in her new role as foreign minister.
- The new Australian prime minister is expected to hold one-on-one meetings with the leaders of the United States, Japan and India as well as attending the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) leaders’ summit during the visit.
- Japan’s prime minister, Fumio Kishida, said he wanted to work with Mr Albanese to deepen bilateral relations and realise ‘a free and open Indo-Pacific’.
