A new report shows that Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) usage has increased in the USA as Americans try to find a way to increase their online securitySummary
This article notes that Coupon Follow conducted two surveys among American consumers, one before the Covid-19 pandemic and the other in February 2021, to gauge how users of the internet rate their security and privacy. Some of the findings are as follows:
- 69% of people are concerned about their data security when using public Wi-Fi, and 64% when at home
- 65% worry that their data will be shared or sold by their Internet Service Provides (ISP).
However, Americans were looking for discount (cheap) VPNs. Worth noting that cheap or free VPNs might be dangerous; see: Free VPNs are bad for your privacy. The reason is that VPN providers want to make money, and if they are not making money from subscriptions, how are they making money? Sadly, the answer is that they are probably selling your data—which somewhat negates the purpose of a VPN in the first place.
