A substantial part of communication between people is non-verbal.Summary
Nonverbal communication reveals who we are and impacts how we relate to others. In many cases, we communicate information in nonverbal ways using a collection of behaviours such as frowning and crossing arms to indicate disapproval. Facial expressions and body language are a major portion of nonverbal communication. The important thing to remember when looking at such nonverbal behaviours is to consider the collective actions in the context of the verbal message - does the message and the body language align? What a person actually says along with his or her expressions, appearance, and tone of voice might tell you a great deal about what that person is really trying to say. Next time you're interacting with someone, look at the nonverbal cues. These will give you a better understanding of what is really being communicated.
