Extensive AI use can improve cognitive flexibility and task support but may also foster subtle dependence and altered thinking patterns. This article recommends maintaining non-AI skills, setting boundaries, and avoiding overreliance on AI tools.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the positive and negative effects of AI use on cognition, emotions, and decision-making, including its influence on confidence, productivity, and cognitive flexibility.
  • Identify and evaluate common indicators of AI dependence, such as reduced confidence in personal skills, overreliance on AI support, and emotional spill over from AI interactions.
  • Apply strategies to maintain healthy and effective AI use, including developing metacognitive awareness, setting usage boundaries, preserving non-AI capabilities, and reducing dependence on any single AI platform.
