ADF leaders, policymakers and reservists discussed expanding reserve capability across all domains, highlighting the need for a larger, more ready force to strengthen homeland defence, emerging technologies and national security in a worsening strategic environment.

Learning Outcomes 

  • Explain the strategic role of the ADF Reserves in supporting Australia’s national security objectives across the maritime, land, air, cyber and space domains.
  • Identify the key challenges and opportunities associated with expanding reserve capability, including workforce growth, readiness, recruitment, retention, homeland defence and emerging technologies.
  • Assess the importance of a larger, better-resourced reserve force in enhancing Defence capability, national resilience and the ADF’s ability to respond to future security and disaster response requirements.
