On International Women’s Day (at the White House), President Biden announced the promotion of two women to four-star rank. You can read the biographies of these two officers here:
- General Jacqueline D. Van Ovost to command the U.S. Transportation Command
- General Laura Richardson to command U.S. Southern Command.
President Biden stated the following:
‘We all need to see and to recognize the barrier-breaking accomplishments of these women, “ he said”. We need the young women just beginning their careers in the military service to see it and know that no door will be closed to them’.
Vice President Harris, the first women Vice President, at the same ceremony stated that:
‘The U.S. military is built as a meritocracy—given equal treatment, the best are supposed to rise, and the country needs this,’
