The Art of Asking for (and Getting) Help
BLUF
The SMART method should be employed when asking for help.Summary
One of the biggest blocks to asking for help is that we are afraid that we will appear as incompetent at our jobs. The reality is that as leaders and supervisors we do not know everything, nor do we always have the resources to achieve organisational tasks and goals effectively. Prof. Wayne Baker has researched how to ask for help. He notes that it can involve not only understanding your goals but also the importance of both giving and asking for help across your organisation. The aim is to create an organisational ethos that involves helping each other to achieve organisational goals. As long as you make a thoughtful, intelligent request, people will not generally question your competence. Remember: If you are not part of the solution, then you are part f the problem.
