Giving and receiving feedback can be difficult, but it is an unavoidable aspect of working in Defence. Josh Bowen from 3 x 5 Leadership contends that feedback can at times be uncomfortable and can make people feel vulnerable. It may also be based on subjective and biased assessments of a person’s performance. So it's important for you to reflect through an honest self-assessment, with examples, so you can go to bat for yourself, if necessary. Generally speaking however, objective and honest feedback is necessary - how can you get better if there is no benchmark to work from? The same applies to team performance.
