This Yahoo! article explains why learning to touch type will improve your performance at work.

Summary

We may think that everyone knows how to type, but there is a difference between using two fingers and being able to touch-type. Learning the correct touch-typing techniques should:

  • Save time.
  • Allow you to achieve more.
  • Reduce health risks in the workplace. i.e. bad posture and Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).
  • Make you more useful to an employer.
  • Many managers consider it a critical skill for remote workers.

Taking charge of your keyboard is crucial before you can be proficient in operating other computer programs such as word, excel, etc., as they all require some typing.
