A ministerial release from The Hon Andrew Hastie MP Assistant Minister for Defence—warning Australians that they cannot be complacent about cyber-security.Summary
Cyber-security is at the front line of Australia's defence and national interests. Last financial year, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and the Australian Cyber Security Centre received over 60,000 cybercrime reports—one every 10 minutes. Recently Microsoft stated that Microsoft Exchange software 2013, 2016 and 2019 has a vulnerability that gives hackers the ability to access systems data. A Microsoft security partner identified this vulnerability. Important to note that Australian Government systems, including defence, will be updated as appropriate by defence security professionals. This release demonstrates just how important the Dept of Defence regards cyber-security. Worth noting the following:
'Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Andrew Hastie MP, urged all Australian organisations to visit cyber.gov.au for information on this vulnerability and the steps required to address this threat.'
