Fusion energy creates energy in the same way as the sun does, and we know how to do this in principle, but now scientists think they have found a way to use fusion energy to drive space vehicles—but it will take many years to perfect this technology.

Mark Whittington writing for the Hill, notes that:

  • Scientists have recently been able to create more energy from fusion energy than it took to run the process in the first place.
  • Fusion energy should enable us to reach the moon and use the moon's resources.
  • Commercial companies are already at work developing fusion rocket engines.
  • However, financial and technology hurdles will likely need to be overcome before any system is tested in Space.
