BLUF

To improve battlefield survival, the U.S. Marine Corps is deploying portable blood storage, blood-warming, ultrasound, and battery-powered medical systems. Aims to enable prolonged casualty care and treatment closer to the front lines.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain how future contested and distributed battlefields are challenging the traditional ‘golden hour’ medical evacuation model and increasing the need for prolonged field care.
  • Describe the functions and operational benefits of emerging Marine Corps medical technologies, including mobile blood banks, blood warmers, portable ultrasounds, and independent power systems.
  • Assess the importance of forward-deployed medical capabilities in improving casualty survival rates, particularly through rapid haemorrhage control, on-site transfusions, and enhanced decision-making for delayed evacuations.
