US Army senior enlisted leaders warn that future large-scale conflicts will generate mass casualties beyond current evacuation capacity, demanding modernised medevac systems, autonomous vehicles, and improved combat lifesaver training to sustain battlefield survival and operational tempo.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Assess lessons from Ukraine and other high-intensity conflicts on the scale and complexity of casualty evacuation in near-peer warfare.
  • Identify capability gaps and emerging solutions (UGVs, drones, enhanced medical kits, expanded lifesaver training) relevant to ADF tactical and operational casualty evacuation.
  • Evaluate the importance of integrating realistic casualty evacuation plans into unit-level exercises to strengthen readiness and survivability.
