Men’s wellbeing can suffer when social expectations, economic pressures and weakened community support leave young men without clear, constructive ways to build identity, purpose and belonging. Fathers can provide important examples of responsibility and positive masculinity.Learning Outcomes
- Describe the key social, economic, and mental health challenges affecting males, including trends in suicide, educational attainment, workforce participation, and family outcomes.
- Analyse the cultural and demographic factors identified as contributing to male struggles, including changing perceptions of masculinity, father absence, and the decline of traditional rites of passage.
- Evaluate the concept of positive masculinity and its implications for mental health, family wellbeing, and social cohesion, including approaches to supporting men without pathologising masculine traits.
