The US Air Force's MH-139, begins operations to secure land-based nuclear missiles, replacing the 54 year old UH-1N Huey design.


  1. The first aircraft arrived at Montana's Malmstrom Air Force Base.
  2. Will patrol missile fields in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota.
  3. More speed and payload than the Huey.
  4. 36 operational airframes planned, down from the originally intended 84.
