The USAF should be operating the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA)—before it takes delivery of the Next Gen Fighters that will eventually be paired with CCAs.

This article by John A. Tirpak, writing for Air & Space Forces Magazine, makes the following points:
  • USAF will take delivery of CCAs several years before it obtains Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighters.
  • The CCAs will augment all types of tactical aircraft, not just the NGAD system.
  • The priority missions of the CCAs are, in order: shooters, electronic warfare platforms, and sensor-carrying aircraft.
