Lack of female judges in ICJ part of broader global issue of lack of women in legal teams.

Summary

  1. Four out of seventeen ICJ Judges are women, with only five women to ever serve in the role since 1945. 
  2. Gender balance is important in the court room to provide a wide range of legal views, particularly regarding issues of gendered violence in conflict.  
  3. Calls for increase in female participation in legal teams.
