Six (6) G, the next generation of wireless communication, is already being developed and should offer much higher data transmission speeds than 5G.

This article by Neil Martin, writing for UNSW Newsroom, identifies the following six points:
  1. 6G is the sixth generation of wireless communications technologies where signals will be transmitted at a frequency band much higher than currently utilised.
  2. 6G communications will occur in the so-called ‘terahertz gap’, roughly between 100 GHz and 10 THz (terahertz).
  3. 6G promises speeds up to 100 times faster than current standards.
  4. The challenge for 6G at frequencies higher than 100 GHz is the attenuation—or weakening of the signal.
  5. Almost every industry will benefit from quicker information transfer, with 6G in the terahertz frequency range.
  6. From around 2028, 6G could become a reality.
