Evan Malmgren writing in Science Alert makes the following points:
- Initial focus on medical use, such as helping paralysed people communicate.
- However, there are ethical concerns that neural implants might cause device dependency and could also change a person's personality.
- Neural implants are being trialled in epileptic-seizure prevention, Parkinson's disease amelioration, depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
