RAAF fighter squadrons in the UK

  • No. 452 Squadron: Formed in April 1941, this squadron flew Spitfires and was one of the most successful in Fighter Command during its first year. It operated over occupied France and Belgium, and contributed to the air defense of Great Britain.
  • No. 456 Squadron: Formed in June 1941, this was a night-fighter unit that initially used Boulton Paul Defiants before switching to Bristol Beaufighters.
  • No. 457 Squadron: Also formed in June 1941, this squadron was equipped with Supermarine Spitfires. It was withdrawn from operations in May 1942 to be redeployed to Australia.
