Seven Australian remotely piloted long-range Triton (MQ-4C) surveillance aircraft (built in the USA) will start arriving at RAAF Tindal in 2024.Summary
Julian Bajkowski writing in the magazine Mandarin, makes the following points:
- Airborne for up to 30 hours to persistently patrol Australia’s north and north-west, south-west Pacific and Antarctica.
- Will be operated from RAAF Edinburgh.
- Acquired through a partnership between Australia, the US Navy and Northrop Grumman.
- They will replace the remaining Orions.
- Australian industry will provide sustainment, ICT and facilities worth $900m.
