A key lesson in the development of air mobility and logistics

Summary

Logistics by Air is a key component of what Air Force brings to the joint force. Easily taken for granted, it was not always the primary means of supplying other services. The Kokoda campaign is one of the earliest examples in Australian military history where the Australian Army relied so heavily on the USAF and Australia's Air Force to logistically support ground operations. What Air Force did was truly innovative and key to success on the ground. Today, air logistics might be taken as normal or “a given.” This was not always the case and it remains a vital air power role. Give this punchy article a read to be well informed about Air Force’s heritage, innovation and joint fighting ability. How might we view today's air logistics in 100 years time? What might it look like in 50 or 100 years from now?
