An air force must be able to defend the bases that generate its air power.Summary
Sean Carwardine sets out a range of challenges which are facing the ground defence capability. He argues that air power is generated from bases and that these bases must be secure to generate air power effects. Military planners have always struggled to adequately resource Airfield Defence Guards.(ADG) The ability to defend airfields, platforms, and personnel is a critical requirement for Air Forces. Carwardine also sets out the pitfalls of using technical staff in airfield defence and raises his concerns about the correct structure and equipped supplied to ADGs to protect air bases during a high-intensity conflict.
