Ukraine’s allies repeatedly respond to Russia’s long-term campaign with short-term measures. The article argues Ukraine’s success depends on sustained, generational investment in its people, institutions, and innovations, not reactive aid or simplistic solutions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse the limitations of short-term Western policy responses to the Russia-Ukraine war and explain why reactive measures alone are insufficient to counter long-term strategies aimed at weakening Ukrainian society.
  • Evaluate the concept of Ukraine’s ‘generational victory’, including the role of young people, education, innovation, and resilient institutions in securing Ukraine’s long-term security, recovery, and democratic development.
  • Identify and assess the value of sustained international partnerships and targeted investments in Ukrainian industries, communities, and institutions as a means of strengthening national resilience and supporting long-term success beyond the battlefield.
