Summary

With increasing workplace automation, 'soft skills' are still in high demand. A Wall Street Journal study concluded that soft skills are as important as hard skills for managers and executives. Mark Perna, Author and Strategic Communications Consultant notes that there are five 'soft skills' he looks for when hiring employees, these are as follows:

  • Communication.
  • Engagement.
  • Problem Solving.
  • Teamwork.
  • Leadership.

Perna concludes that

'as the world automates, professional skills are the currency of the future..'.

The importance of soft skills is recognised in most national Professional Military Education programs. Developing 'soft skills' should make most organisations more effective and capable.
