This report argues that AUKUS is a technology accelerator to shift the military balance in the Indo Pacific without competing against the QUAD or lessening the importance of ASEAN forums by the AUKUS members.Summary

- It is much more than nuclear submarines.
- Members need to adopt new military technology.
- In Australia, this might only be achieved by appointing a “supremo “from outside Defence reporting directly to the Prime Minister.
- The Five-Eyes intelligence partnership will still remain relevant.
- AUKUS should support the Quad and the Australia–Japan–US trilateral.
- It needs clear, measurable performance indicators.
- In addition to nuclear submarines, it needs to focus on artificial intelligence, cybertechnologies, and quantum technologies.
