Workers in high-stress jobs need to maximise downtime to better recover from periods of stress.Summary
Chris Woolston’s article republished in Big Think makes the following points:
- People in very stressful jobs find it difficult to relax; this is known as the recovery paradox.
- There are two broad approaches to recovery:
- Relaxation is any activity that calms the mind, such as walking.
- Mastery is learning a non-work related skill such as painting.
