High-readiness air defence operations are being maintained to counter Russian threats and drones. The air force has adopted faster engagement procedures, but equipment shortages and delayed weapons integration continue to hinder capability improvements.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the key challenges facing Poland’s air defence modernisation program, including capability gaps, equipment integration delays, and operational readiness demands.
  • Explain the differences between Visual Identification (VID) and Positive Identification (PI) procedures and assess how these changes improve air defence responsiveness.
  • Evaluate the operational and strategic challenges of countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including cost-effectiveness, weapon integration issues, and emerging solutions within the Polish Air Force.
