What comes to mind when you think of resilience? Is it getting up after being knocked down, again and again? Is it pushing on in the face of adversity or constant challenges? Or, perhaps when you think of resilience you picture mental toughness or having a warrior-mindset. It’s fair to say that resilience is all those things—but, it’s even more.
To be fair, resilience is about bouncing back; but it is also about being equipped to handle those challenges by having the resources to properly respond to them without feeling, or becoming overwhelmed. When this is so, we are able to operate with much more clarity, even under sustained pressure. And, that’s particularly important in a Defence environment.
This collection of articles will help unpack concepts of resilience and aims to help prepare ADF members to be mentally prepared for future challenges they may face.
